FINALLY!TRADITIONAL AFRICAN DANCE CLASS! In Visalia...Thursdays for 4 weeks in March. Starting March 4, 2010, 7:30-8:30pm. $12 per class Location: Sierra Performing Arts Center (114 E. Oak St.), Visalia CA 93291. For more info call: 559-561-6556. Taught by world percussionist and traditional dancer Keio Ogawa!  Keio has been to Africa more than 7 times, for months at a time.  We will learn Traditional African dance, as done in the villages of upper Guinea.  If you have seen WADABA, the Great Panther of Guinea, perform, you may have seen some of the dances at his shows! These dances are for everyone and all ages!  They are simple enough for all to enjoy, and not too athletic.  Most African dance classes teach "African ballet style" and are choreographed combinations of several traditional dances linked together. They are super exciting, high-powered classes.  For many folks, those classes are the best for them!  But for some, African ballet style dance can be a bit overwhelming and progress faster than is comfortable.  Traditional dances in the African villages are simpler, so that most of the community can enjoy dancing.  Emphasis in Keio's Traditional African Dance Class is on the African "feel" and "soul" of the dance.  The goal is for you to feel the joy, and that it "feels right" when you dance. Treat yourself! Free yourself! LETS DANCE!
